Rainwater Harvesting

Environmental sensitivities advocate the harvesting of rainwater regardless of well water availability.  You not only preserve natures shrinking water table but also conserve substantial electrical energy required for deep well pumping.  There is renewed interest in this age-old concept especially in Arizona with decreasing ground water levels and increased Federal compliance requirements.

The surrounding area enjoys a ten-year average rainfall of approx. 16 inches. Rainfall Data   Approximate cost for a Rooftop Rainwater Harvesting system is $10,000. Rainwater . org

To supplement their rooftop collection system the Underwoods recently built a reservoir which will be utilized primarily for landscaping and fire prevention.  A 3.9-acre watershed flows into the 400,000 gallon capacity reservoir which is classified as a storm-water retention facility.
